UT: Installing Custom Maps

UNREAL TOURNAMENT

How to Install Custom Maps

Now, we know that certain maps never loose their charm (Facing Worlds for instance), but putting up a few good custom maps into your rotation never hurt anyone. Since space is generally a concern when renting a server, you probably want to download custom maps first to your home computer and see which ones you'd like on your server.

Once you find a map suitable for hours of fragging, fire up an FTP client and login to your account. Unzip the file(s) before opening, and upload the files to the appropriate directory. (also, be sure that you upload the files as binaries, not as text) For example, .unr files go into the /Maps directory, .utx files go in the /Textures directory, as so on.

When you're finished uploading the map files into the right directories, it's time to make the changes to your maplist.

In the /System directory is a file called UnrealTournament.ini

Edit this file using your favourite text editor, and find the section that looks like this:

[Botpack.CTFMapList]
Maps[0]=CTF-Face.unr
Maps[1]=CTF-Niven.unr
Maps[2]=CTF-November.unr
Maps[3]=
Maps[4]=

Maps[26]=

Maps[28]=
Maps[29]=
Maps[30]=
Maps[31]=
MapNum=0

Enter the names of the maps in the empty spaces, using the full name. (If you're unsure of the full name, look in your /ut-server/Maps folder for a list of maps you have)

There are three Maplists in the UnrealTournament.ini file, each for the different game types. Be sure to put the maps in the right sections (ie. CTF maps go in the CTFMapList, DM in the DMMapList, etc..)

Once this is completed, the next time you run ASU and 'Install Init Script', your new maps will be listed. Also, the new maps will go into rotation in the order in which they've been placed in the MapList.
