How to get your MartNet Mail via Entourage
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac

PLEASE NOTE:

The article assumes that you have an active connection with a MartNet Dial-Up access number. In other words, make sure your computer is online before you continue, and that it's with us! Printing this out before you start wouldn't hurt neither.

Basic E-mail Configuration

  1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.

  2. On the Mail tab, click New.

  3. In the Account Setup Assistant box, type your name (or any name you wish; this is the name that users see when they receive messages from you). Click the arrow to advance to the next screen.

  4. In the Internet Mail Address box, type your e-mail address.

For dialup customers, this will be something like "username@martnet.com" where you replace "username" with the username you chose when you signed up. For most Virtual Hosting customers, it will be username@yourdomain.com, or .org, or .whatever... then click the arrow to advance to the next screen.

  5. In the E-mail Server Names dialog box, click the My Incoming Mail Server box, and then click POP3.

  6. In the Incoming Mail box, dialup customers will use mail.martnet.com, while virtual hosting customers use postoffice.yourdomain.com.

  7. In the Outgoing Mail box, enter exactly what you typed for Incoming, and then click the arrow to advance to the next screen.

  8. In the Account ID box, type your username. Remember, this is the part of your e-mail address before the at (@) sign (for all customers).

  9. In the Password box, type the password that you chose when you signed up. The Save Password option is automatically selected, so if you don't want to type your password every time you check your mail, leave it alone. If you want to be prompted for a password when you check messages (for example, if you aren't the only person who uses this computer), click the Save Password check box to clear it, and then click the arrow to advance to the next screen.

  10. In the Account Name box, type a descriptive name for the account; "MartNet mail," ferinstance.

  11. Click Finish.

Additional Configuration Options

IMPORTANT: This section contains advanced options that you should use only if you are comfortable and familiar with managing email accounts in general, and arcane program settings in particular.

Account Options

For more account options, click the Options tab. The following additional options are available for both message management and convenience.

Message Options

  • Default Signature - the "signature" is a few lines of text that is applied to all messages. If you don't want one, just ignore this.

  • Additional Headers - inserts additional header fields; for example, the Reply-to option.

Server Options

  • Partially Receive Messages - a size of over 20 kilobyte (kb) is the default.

  • Leave a copy of message on server - additional options that allow you to delete messages after a number of specified days and when you can delete locally.

  • Get all messages left on server - allows you to download any messages on the server.

  • Allow online access - displays the contents of a server mailbox and allows you to read messages without moving them to the local mail store.
